This morning a group of polar bears, nurses and Robin Hoods faced off in a tug-of-war against Wall Street bankers over the half-penny Robin Hood Tax. Friends of the Earth joined National Nurses United, Food & Water Watch, the Institute for Policy Studies and others outside a climate finance meeting to raise awareness for this common sense tax for the public good.

For Coke, “donating” a fraction of a percent of its revenue (roughly .0013%) keeps its Dasani bottled water for sale in parks and buys the exclusive right to use park logos in advertisements. As marketing schemes go, it’s brilliant. Coke greens its image, turns a profit in the park, and writes it all off at tax time. Since August of 2011, the National Park Service has been working on a billion dollar corporate-financed endowment, and Coke has been in on the plans since the initial fundraising summit.

Our Campaign for GE-Free Seafood is off to great start! Grocery stores across the nation, including Trader Joe’s, Whole Foods, Aldi and Marsh Supermarkets, have pledged not to carry genetically engineered salmon or other seafood. The salmon wouldn’t even be labeled as GE, so it’s up to stores to make sure their customers know what kinds of food they’re buying.
